Tijuana Flats History

Brian Wheeler opened the first Tijuana Flats restaurant in 1995 in Winter Park, Florida.

The initial capital for the restaurant was a scant $20,000 borrowed from members of his family. The chain slowly expanded to 6 regional locations by 2001.

The first out of state location was in 2004. As of 2016 there are over 120 locations focused mostly in the Southeastern United States.

The chain employs over 3,000 people and is headed by CEO Larry Ryback. A

strong commitment to giving back to the community has been one of the hallmarks of the brand. The Just in Queso Foundation was founded in 2007 and has since given over $3.5 million to various charitable causes.
