The sides and starters menu offers several great extras to go with BBQ including novelties like fried pickles and southern standards like fried okra. If you are not in the mood for BBQ, consider a burger. The bottomless salad bar is a great choice for those seeking lighter fare.

Here are some customer favorites from the menu:

Redneck Egg Rolls

A new twist on an old favorite, these egg rolls are full of bold flavor and keep regulars coming back for more. Pulled pork, homemade slaw and pepper jack cheese are stuffed into wonton wrappers and deep fried for a crunchy finish. They come with a side of smoky Ranch for dipping.

Bottomless Salad Bar

This is a great way to keep it light and have all of your favorite fixin’s on your salad. Fresh greens, pasta salads, roasted corn, shredded cheese, tomatoes, onions and dressings galore among other tasty additions await you on the salad bar. Go for as many trips as you want.

Beef Brisket Platter

You won’t go hungry after this feast. It starts with grain-fed beef brisket that is treated with a signature rub and slow smoked for a moist and velvety finish that is jam packed with smoky flavors. Truly memorable flavor and texture! It comes with two sides and bread (or cornbread). Great with baked beans and corn on the cob for that summertime feel.

All You Can Eat Sweet and Smokey Ribs

If you have a huge appetite, check out the all you can eat options on the menu. If you have not tried the ribs yet, they will not disappoint. This feast comes with as many of the tender and saucy ribs you can eat. If you want to go light on the sides to make plenty of room for more ribs, have it with green beans and slaw.

Sonny’s Sampler

Can’t decide which of the great BBQ items to choose from? This sampler is a dinner platter built for you! It comes with pulled pork, BBQ chicken, beef brisket and ribs. You still get to pick two sidekicks from the menu. Check out the macaroni and cheese and the sweet baked beans.

Sonny’s History

Floyd “Sonny” Tillman and his wife Lucille founded the first Sonny’s Real Pit-Bar-B-Q in 1968. The original location was a small building in Gainesville, Florida. Franchising began in 1977 and by 1988 there were 77 locations in 6 states. It was purchased by Bob Yarmuth in 1991, although Tillman retained ownership of the original location until 2011.

Pitmasters at Sonny’s BBQ have to go through an extensive training program that includes knowledge on BBQ history, techniques as well as cultural and geographical variations in BBQ styles. Their training also includes butchering, wood and smoke expertise, and the art and science of rubs and sauces.

In 2013 the name changed to Sonny’s BBQ. At its peak operation there were 150 locations of the chain making it the largest BBQ chain in the U.S.
